One of the enjoyable parts of running this website is discovering other Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta) sorority sisters. Over the years I’ve met Tri Deltas from different chapters around the country. It provides an instant bond. Why? Because when I meet another Tri Delta I know we have one thing in common – our ritual. No matter where a Tri Delta is initiated, she experiences the same ritual.
We use the same ritual book full of timeless ideals handed down for generations. If I say Alpha Theta Phi to her, she knows what that means. If we talk about pansies, she knows what they represent. She knows what the three stars on our lovely badge represent. The story of the pine tree. What a pearl means. Even if we’ve never met and are generations apart, we share the bond of our ritual.
Well, we did. But our lovely ritual has been gutted and rewritten, sacrificed to the political correctness of the cultural maelstrom.
It isn’t only Tri Delta’s ritual. The 26 sororities that make up the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) are all rewriting and reworking every aspect of their membership. I’m of the opinion that these changes will actually bring about the destruction of NPC member groups.
Why?
Because the NPC sororities have just about reached the point of no return. They are in the process of making decisions that I believe will determine whether their groups survive and thrive or slowly wither away and enter the dustbin of history. We’re watching in real time the destruction of another largely American institution undermined and destroyed by progressive wokeness.
Let’s look at just two examples. The first will be my own organization, Tri Delta. The second will be Kappa Delta.
Gutting the Tri Delta Ritual
I became aware of the changes to my own sorority ritual this year. Sororities have been “updating” their rituals that are 100-150 years old in order to make them more acceptable. Why? Because many of them (including my own) are full of Christian symbolism, Scripture, and imagery.
As Delta Gamma recently described it on their Facebook page, the rituals include “white ideals and perspectives” in them. And these “white ideals and perspectives” must be removed. Now that whiteness is considered the root of all evil, it must be removed wherever it is found by those in the woke mob – even if those “white” Christian perspectives are actually shared by billions of people across time and the world. For the purposes of making NPC groups embrace progressivism in all its forms, it is necessary to erase any aspect of Christianity that made these organizations strong for generations.
Through a series of events, a Tri Delta sister shared with me that this has already been happening in our own ritual in recent years. Because I don’t live near a collegiate chapter and am no longer involved on the national level, I was not aware of this. Members of other sororities reached out to me privately in another setting to confirm this is happening in their own organizations.
This summer I was able to watch the Tri Delta ritual online during the virtual convention. It is a ritual with which I am very familiar. I memorized the ritual when I was chapter president so I could look the women in the eye while initiating them and not have my head buried in the ritual book. I also presided over the initiation ritual multiple times. Because of this, I still remember vast portions of the ritual and I knew which parts would be gutted. I was correct. The beautiful imagery, legends, and meaning of the ritual were completely gone. This was further confirmed when another Tri Delta sister offered to send me a PDF copy of our ritual from a number of decades ago.
I no longer share the same ritual with my Tri Delta sisters. We don’t share the same understanding of what it means to be a Tri Delta and why our founders chose the symbolism they did. New members are being initiated with a weak, increasingly politically correct ritual.
The Tri Delta ritual will not survive the gutting of “white ideals and perspectives.” As sororities become more woke, they will steadily eliminate every reference to anything Christian in their ritual. In the end, they will end up a woman’s group with no real traditions and no connections. The Tri Delta ritual cannot exist if the woke mob demands the removal of everything Christian, conservative, traditional, and what they incorrectly deem “white.”
I think most sorority alumnae have no idea this is happening to their rituals. Most are too busy working, taking care of their children, etc. to know about developments in their sorority. If they haven’t been involved in a alumnae chapter or are unable to volunteer with a collegiate chapter, they have no idea their lovely ritual no longer exists and is but a shell of what they were privileged to be a part of.
Kappa Delta Sorority and Amy Coney Barrett
The other example I’m going to share happened just in the past few days with Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court. It was this that made me decide to finally finish this partially written post and publish it.
Amy Coney Barrett is a member of Kappa Delta’s chapter at Rhodes College. While thousands of sorority women have served in local, state, and national government, the Supreme Court is on an entirely different level. Kappa Delta has every right to be proud that one of their sisters has achieved such an incredible level of professional achievement while also enjoying a lovely and fulfilling personal life.
Kappa Delta shared Amy Coney Barrett’s accomplishment on their official Facebook page earlier this week. Instead of celebrating their sister, the Woke mob of Kappa Delta who disagrees with parts of Amy Coney Barrett’s life and viewpoint was outraged and made sure the Kappa Delta leadership knew. Sadly, Kappa Delta leadership gave in to the angry mob, took down the message, and offered up an apology.
As you can imagine, this backtracking and throwing one of their accomplished sisters under the bus greatly offended the many members who were proud of Barrett and what she had achieved. They expressed that Kappa Delta was telling them that their views as Conservatives, Christians, and such were invalid. As I wrote in my forum when I shared this information in Kappa Delta Sorority recognizes sister Amy Coney Barrett on Facebook and then caves to the Woke mob:
Kappa Delta Sorority issued a congratulatory statement on Facebook to recognize their sister, Amy Coney Barrett, and her tremendous professional achievement.
Meltdown ensued by those on the Left and, of course, in the name of diversity, inclusion, and equity (DIE), they had to take it down.
Because diversity only matters if you are on the Left. Diversity of opinion doesn’t apply to Conservatives, Christians, or anyone else not sufficiently a part of the Woke Religion.
I don’t see this ending well for Kappa Delta. Bending the knee to the mob never ends well. We know this because it has been confirmed time and again. The reality is that critical race theory, wokeness, etc. destroy organizations from within. It pits members against each other and alienates the average member. It literally eats organizations alive as the topics become the focus of everything that happens and every choice that is made. (See the videos I shared in the comments.) I wonder if the Kappa Delta leadership truly understands the significance of the choice they made when they chose to distance themselves from their own sister and how that will impact everything in their organization going forward.
Who Are the Keepers of Tradition?
I think there is an important element in this unfolding drama in NPC sororities that leadership is missing. In a desire to appease the woke faction of their organizations, sorority leadership is forgetting that the keepers of tradition in a culture are the Conservatives. As leaders make decisions that alienate, dismiss, and even force out their conservative sisters, they will be pushing out the very women who would keep their organization alive and moving forward.
By very definition, Conservatives desire to conserve what is best and most helpful in a culture. This includes the conservative members of sororities who see tremendous long-term value in maintaining what has made the NPC sorority experience unique while thoughtfully and carefully making changes that serve the organization and membership as it moves forward.
What happens when sororities run off the majority of their conservative sisters? In a relatively short time you will be left with a glorified woman’s club (sorry, womxn’s club) that is indistinguishable from the rest of the groups on campus for “people with vaginas” and people who wish they had vaginas. Make no mistake that is where this is headed and you have to be either willfully blind not to see it or making deliberate choices to move your organization in that very direction. When the conservative members have all been run off, the NPC sororities will end up progressive women’s groups that resemble nothing that our sisters in the past would even recognize.
Unlike when NPC groups were being founded as a means of support for the few women attending college, women’s groups are now a dime a dozen on campus. You can find a group for women on virtually any topic, belief, cause, etc. because women now enroll in higher numbers than men. But NPC sororities have always been different from other groups on campus.
Sororities have always been selective, somewhat mysterious, and for life. Many sorority alumnae will tell you that they are more attached to their sorority chapter than they are their alma mater. Sorority membership has been a significant and valuable part of the college experience for many women. It wasn’t just another club on campus. It was much more than that. It was a sisterhood. I experienced it and I know it to be true. There are no other clubs or organizations on campus that offer what an NPC sorority membership does. Nothing comes close.
As national sorority leadership councils decide to strip away the very elements that make sororities unique, they are basically signing the death warrant for their own organizations.
In the past, the threats to Greek life mainly came from without. Now the threats come from within. But this is exactly how it plays out in every organization that goes woke. Whether it is a knitting website, the new atheist movement, churches, or NPC sororities, the results are inevitable.
Get woke, go broke.
Will Any of the NPC Sororities Survive?
Will the NPC sororities survive? Yes, probably in some form. But they have some significant challenges ahead of them if they continue in this direction.
Running a sorority isn’t cheap whether you are talking about the national organization or an individual chapter. Budgets vary wildly depending on the campus, the housing situation, etc. But sororities have always depended on one thing – alumnae support. This support comes in three forms:
- money
- time
- promotion and networking
Sororities depend on generous alumnae donating money regularly. They depend on women volunteering their time to serve on local, regional, and national committees. And they depend on alumnae encouraging young women to join.
How many sorority alumnae who lean conservative are going to continue pouring money, time, and support into an organization that has turned its back on them and now preaches and openly promotes disdain toward them and their beliefs? A conservative woman would have to be insane to continue to actively support an organization that has forcefully pushed her aside and considers her views unacceptable. There are plenty of other organizations who would welcome her support.
If the conservative members opt to no longer participate in supporting the organization, will the more progressive members who remain fill those gaps? Time will tell. Do progressives know how to build? Or only change and destroy? How do you build something that will last when you remove all of the core values and replace them with something constantly in flux with no central guiding principle beyond the outrage of the month?
The question I am asking myself is whether or not any of the NPC sororities have leadership at the top who will recognize this and act quickly enough to save their organizations. I’m not involved enough any longer on the national level to know the character or strength of leadership of the 26 groups. I have no real knowledge on the matter beyond looking at websites and trying to gauge how far down the woke rabbit hole they have gone. (Some of them are really far down it in ways that are honestly beyond comprehension.)
However, if I were a betting woman and forced to put my money somewhere, I’d put my money on the NPC groups that have some combination of the following:
- strong national leaders who can endure heaps of verbal and written abuse and hang together through the storm
- strong presence in the South
- very strong alumnae network of multi-generational members and legacies
- concentration of their strongest collegiate and alumnae chapters in red states
- strong chapters in colleges and universities with strong and traditional Greek systems
- strong chapters in smaller and more conservative colleges
There are already chapters at very liberal colleges and universities wanting to disband and turn in their charter because they are so “ashamed” of the sorority they are a member of. I expect this will continue to accelerate as the Woke Religion gains more adherents on college campi and college students are filled with “shame” over their presence in something so evil as a sorority that selects its members on controversial criteria such as grade point and moral character.
I think the NPC groups that take this threat seriously will have to decide how many chapters they are willing to lose in order to save the organization. Sometimes you have to amputate to save the patient. It sounds harsh, but the Woke mob won’t stop or be appeased until they have destroyed the very organization they joined. NPC groups will have to decide where the future of their organization lies, make choices in line with that, and move forward in the consequences.
What Can Sorority Alumnae Do?
The first thing you have to decide is if you are willing to enter the fray. If you speak up against these changes, you will be attacked as all kinds of terrible things. You will be considered a racist. That’s simply a given. You will lose friends and sisters.
Is your sorority worth it? Do you care enough to try to stem the tide of change? That’s an honest question and there is no one right answer. It may not be worth it. Only you can answer that.
I have not resigned my membership in Tri Delta nor do I intend to. I cherish my membership and the values of Tri Delta. Before we had our daughter, I had Tri Delta named as a beneficiary in a particular situation. Although my involvement has been almost nothing for many years due to other needs in my life, my love for my sorority is real.
Whatever you decide to do, I think you owe it to your organization to contact them and make them aware of your views. Kindly, politely, and truthfully.
The Words of Sarah Ida Shaw Martin
Sara Ida Shaw was one of the two founders of Delta Delta Delta. On Thanksgiving Eve in 1888, she stood with Eleanor Dorcas Pond and they proclaimed the founding of Tri Delta on a street in Boston under a crescent moon. They had carefully planned out all of the details of this new sorority and would soon begin to add members. Although Sarah Ida Shaw had been invited to join other sororities at Boston University, she had chosen not to. Instead she founded her own and said this, a quote I have cherished since becoming a member:
“Let us found a society that shall be kind alike to all and think more of a girl’s inner self and character than of her personal appearance.” Sarah Ida Shaw
Sarah Ida Shaw Martin went on to be one of the moving forces in sorority life, consulting with other organizations, writing prolifically, etc. How sad she would be today to know that the NPC sororities she loved and assisted in so many ways are on the brink of throwing away the legacy passed on through generations.
The question that remains is whether or not there will be any sororities still around in another ten to fifteen years to provide women the opportunities and experiences enjoyed and appreciated by so many.
Please note: Any rude, inflammatory, or abusive comments will be immediately deleted.
I’m not in a sorority, but I still found this an interesting read. I still can’t tell if we’re living in a time of greater-than-normal upheaval, or if it just seems that way. Every decade has its issues, right? I’m just waiting to see what happens. Hopefully less than we fear.
Hi Elsie,
It’s easier for an organization to fight off a common outside enemy. Sorority membership numbers took a hit during the 1960s/70s when it was considered uncool, but sororities worked to stay alive. But that was an outside threat. The threat now is members turning on each other. I think an internal fight it going to be much more difficult to deal with. There is no way to keep both sides happy when they want such different things.
Once wokeness and critical race theory infiltrate an organization it’s only a matter of when it implodes, not if. That’s why I think these groups have a very small timeframe to deal with this or they will simply lose control. You can already see it with the Kappa Delta situation. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. They are going to have to decide which way their future lies and go with it. They will probably lose a lot of members both literally and figuratively. It’s sad.
I do think things are worse now because we’re in the height of the Fourth Turning. We’re living through a time equivalent to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, etc. What happens in the coming months and next few years will determine the path our country takes for many years to come.
Sallie
It is obvious to me that your sorority is near and dear to your heart. I am sure it was not easy to write this blog post.
What you say makes sense and these woke views may be their downfall.
It is true that a woman’s beauty has far more to do with her character than her looks. Going down the “woke” road lacks a great deal of character and kindness towards others. In the long run, this change will drive those away who have character and kind hearts and those who truly love and follow Jesus.
Hi Kris,
Your point about the type of women this will drive away is so true. While the stereotype of sororities as wild places is accurate in some cases, there are many more that are filled with members who are kind, thoughtful, hard-working young women. This includes many Christians. How many of them will want to join chapters where their faith and the skin color of their family is seen as the root of all evil in our culture?
Wokeness is a runaway train right now and sororities are desperately pivoting to be on the acceptable side of what is happening. If they go full woke and embrace all of critical race theory, a lot of quality women are going to opt out. This during a time when college enrollment was already dropping significantly before the pandemic so there are smaller classes coming into colleges and universities. More than 25% of colleges were expected to close in the next 10 years due to falling enrollments BEFORE the pandemic. And now vilifying a significant number of women who do enroll? It sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
Sallie
Hi Sallie:
As a Bible believing Christian now, I realize how un-Christian most of the Tri-Delta rituals in which I participated at Delta Sigma chapter actually were and are. I fully understand that these rituals are not necessarily intended to be heretical, but are engaged in with ignorance of what God’s Word actually says about these types of affiliations.
If one looks at the symbol of the trident alone and its meaning in Greek mythology, that should be enough for any true Christian to question her association with the sorority.
I hope you can tell from my tone that I’m not being mean, but urging you and other women who are and were Tri Delts( yes, were because some of us have repented of our association with the group and received God’s forgiveness for that sin via the atoning blood of Jesus) to READ your Bible and allow the Holy Spirit to show you in God’s word why your decision to join Tri Delta was a sinful choice.
In God’s Love,
Deborah Duncan Henderson
Hi Deborah,
Thank you for your comment. I’ve already been thinking and praying about whether I should resign from Tri Delta based on its current direction, but have not seen God definitely answer that prayer.
I understand your perspective. My story of joining as a Christian at that time, however, is full of God’s guidance and provision for me each step of the way. I’ve written about it in the post below. It’s not possible for me to say that God was in none of that when He clearly was. So I don’t agree that it was a sinful choice to join in my case, but I can only speak to my own experience. Even when I went into initiation, I was ready to walk out if there was something I thought was wrong. I did not feel led by the Lord to do so. Just the opposite. I clearly believe God wanted me there. I was ready to give it up at any time, but I believe Tri Delta and the Greek system were my mission field. I worked with Greeks via InterVarsity for a time as well after graduation.
If someone believes they are in sin to be a member, I would not argue with that. I understand that view. Truly. But I have not come to the same conclusion.
Thank you again for taking the time to leave your comment.

When God has spoken in his Word about something, we don’t need to wait for confirmation. We need to obey:).
Salllie,
I found what you wrote to be so insightful. I am an Alpha Delta Pi. My sorority voted at convention in 2017 to admit trans members. Our ritual was based on Christianity as well. I think it’s just as one person said the alums have no idea. ADPi posted about Pride Month and one of my friends from church , who was an ADPI at another chapter made the comment that when she was in school they didn’t have that. She graduated in 1975. The woke mob just brutalized her. I commented that that the by laws now allow for transgender and I went on to state that it was a slap in the face to sisters when ADPi won’t automatically take legacies anymore but will take trans. I stated my case for our Creed and the Christian ideals of womanhood that our founders put in place. The woke mob acted like fools. I told by sister that I am no longer financially supporting ADPI and that she shouldn’t either.
Hi Joi,
I don’t know if you will see this, but somehow I missed your comment back in June last year. It’s an abomination what has been done to our sisterhoods. A literal abomination.
I’m so sorry for what happened to your sister at church. What a horrible experience after a lifetime of loving ADPi.
Sallie
I’ll just leave this here.

Thank you for standing up for what is right, Sallie. I really don’t know anything about sororities, but I know how politically charged the knitting world is. The ray of hope in it all is that the mob has a relatively short attention span, probably because they have so many attacks on so many fronts. It’s not just sororities who should be ashamed of their groveling to the left, either. A few months back, I was encouraged to participate in a kneeling exercise at work for 8 minutes as a part of “white coats for black lives”. I’m not an integral white coat person at my job, but all employees were encouraged to attend. I did not, of course, but I did spy out the window at those who did. What a ridiculous spectacle! Just a glorified photo op. The hospital where I work is in a wealthy white suburb, so that just added to the nonsense of it all. Anyway, I will be keeping you in prayer. Stand strong!
I am a Kappa Delta and will be turning in my pin. I have loved my sorority dearly but I am not ok with the direction that I see them going. Thank you so much for writing this article. I was thinking all that you said the moment that I saw the apology.
Hi Teresa,
Did you contact your national officers? I would encourage you to do so before you formally resign. I haven’t been paying attention to what has developed since the initial blow-up on Facebook. Have they back tracked at all?
I can tell you that the little bit I put in my forum gets a steady stream of traffic all day from Google so people are reading about it.
Sallie

I have never felt such sisterhood with a woman outside of my own Delta Gamma fraternity as I do after reading this article. Thank you so much for so eloquently saying what I and many of my DG sisters have been feeling and discussing in recent months. The cancel culture of the liberal colleges is eating NPC alive.
It breaks my heart to see the disgusting comments on my DG Facebook page, run by executive offices, who doesn’t delete when a sister calls another “racist” and tells her to “turn in your badge” for having a different opinion.
It makes my head spin to see the posts they have made this past year, that seem to be trying to stir up division… posts that have nothing to do with Delta Gamma.
Kappa Delta’s post and apology about ACB were both pathetic. The original post bent over backwards to basically say “we don’t like HER but we are proud of her accomplishment”… and yet that even offended the mob! They should be ashamed of themselves. I know many KD women who are ashamed of KD for it.
Thank you so much for this article. I pray our wonderful sororities will survive. This is the first time I’ve been glad not to have a daughter who could become my sister, as I did with my own mother. Yes, I’m a legacy, but DG doesn’t care about those anymore either because recruiting legacies is now considered racist. 🤦🏼♀️
My own chapter had women of various colors, nationalities and religions. There was never a second thought about it! If some chapters are having issues with racism, then it should be dealt with at the chapter level- not by dismantling some of the most important aspects of a sorority- it’s legacies and rituals.
I was a collegiate VP, an advisory team chairman to my local Rutgers chapter for many years, as well as an alumnae group president. I’m sad to have lost any pride in wearing the anchor. I pray I can keep what I have left.
We are in this together. ⚓️❤️🐬
Hi Gail,
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment. It is wonderful to meet another NPC sister.
I don’t know how familiar you (and the DG sisters you mentioned) are with critical race theory (CRT) and all that goes with it. At the end of this comment is a video I’ve shared before on my site that is actually very helpful. (It is the first of three videos.)
In this video from just over a year ago, three men discuss in detail how critical race theory (CRT) destroys every organization it enters. All of them. It doesn’t matter what kind of organization it is.
One of the men is a Southern Baptist and he is the one who set up the video series when he saw CRT moving into the SBC. The other two are academics and atheists who are well-versed in this topic. (I think one of them now calls himself agnostic.) In any case, these three gentlemen all agree that CRT is absolutely toxic to organizations and a serious threat.
This is what is driving everything happening in the National Panhellenic Conference right now. This is why our sororities are doing what they are doing. They have chosen to embrace CRT and bring all aspects of it into our sisterhoods.
If these gentlemen are correct, this will destroy our groups. They lay it all out there in how it will happen.
I hope this video is helpful for you or anyone else who reads this. Once you understand what is happening, it will be clearer why KD capitulated to the mob, why DG is allowing sisters to call other sisters racist openly in public, and why DDD has a page on the national website full of CRT propaganda.
Sallie
ETA: It takes a bit for them to get going on this. They lay a lot of groundwork the first 35 minutes or so. But when they get to the practical ways it plays out in an organization, you will clearly see the connection with sororities.

I’m an ADPi advisor and I’ve considered leaving my post due to wokeness. They’ve removed anything related to “christian” womanhood and DEI dictates all decisions from recruitment décor down to the tshirts. We even have a group within the chapter that is ONLY for women who fit into the BIPOC subset. It’s small, cliquey, and toxic towards most decisions made for the whole. The last time I checked, we weren’t supposed to have official groups within our whole but OK. I regularly toss out the Adelphean quarterly magazine due to seeing too much wokeness in it and I will not be encouraging my daughter to go greek when it’s time (if they’re even around in 18 years).
Hi Leann,
Thank you for sharing your story. It’s one that is being repeated all over in many different organizations.
Sadly, I suspect most of our groups have been deliberately infiltrated by people whose sole desire is to divide and conquer. They have no interest in sisterhood or the values that have sustained our sisterhoods for generations. The only goal is to sow division and destroy.
Unless a core group of women in each national group bands together, says enough, and retakes control of the organization, we’re looking at tremendous downward spirals for all groups. These sisterhoods would be better off losing half their chapters and stopping it then allowing it to continue. I suspect very few of them will have the guts to do it. Will any? I don’t know.
Sallie
Every good, every nation, every person, every success, and even God Himself has an evil enemy who is gaining power and using deceit to do it. Jesus Christ was not white first of all so what kind of white racist is delusional enough to follow Him in the first place. The Civil Rights Act was not to benefit the very people it claimed but instead seemed to be a recipe for National and Christian destruction. The same is happening now. Only destruction is happening under the guise of diversity and interestingly named DEI (a word for God ). It is written (Biblically so). I am not white and in fact I am black. I’m not blind to racists or racism but neither am I blind to the schemes of the enemy. If I didn’t know better I’d say our entire nation has been subverted with the goal of ultimate implosion in every sector of our way of life. The sororities will have to leave the college campuses to maintain their traditions and it needs to be done. Keep the standards. Unfortunately, there is only one American culture and the heart of a true American understands that even if they’re of a different religion it doesn’t mean they’re excluded. They would only be excluded if they’re not allowed to participate respectively. D.E. I. Is the new god. Decades ago I learned in psychology that EVERY person and nation is religious and spiritual. All the books have been rewritten these days to hide a satanic agenda. It’s still the same that every nation and person is religious and spiritual. So, when one religion is forced out it is indeed to make room for another. Nothing can exist without religion or spirituality. God Himself says it that in all things you’re either for Him or against Him.
Thank you for your article! You are very brave! Your tone is heartfelt and true and not at all offensive. Don’t let anyone tell you different. I AM A CHRISTIAN AMERICAN first! I will not let being a woman or black take God off of His throne in all things lest those things crumble.
Graciously,
Etti

These Kappas at Wyoming have more courage than the national executive boards of the sororities that have folded to the cultural pressures. Sororities were founded for women to have a place on a campus dominated by men at the time. They were designed for friendship, leadership, and a home away from home.
It’s hard to fathom at times how fall they have fallen.

Apply this to the NPC sororities.

If anyone from any NPC sorority sees this, I’d love to know what is going on with financial giving in the various groups. (I’m not looking for specifics that would violate confidentiality.)
Based on what I’ve read in a few other places, it sounds like there has been a dramatic drop-off in alumnae donations.
I’d love to hear any anecdotal stories from your circle of sisters, chapter alumnae, etc.
